Tai Chi for Improving Balance

Tai Chi and other internal exercises can significantly improve balance. Studies have been done to show that falls may be prevented and balance improved especially in the elderly by practicing Tai Chi and other balance orientated internal arts. Doing Tai Chi or Yiquan walking is probably one of the first exercises that should be taught to elederly students looking to improve balance. The walking is done slowly with the student focusing on being relaxed and balanced. The center of balance is only moved when both feet are on the ground so balance is more stable. Standing meditation also helps to improve both awareness of balance and a better connection from the ground(feet) through the whole body.
