WELCOME TO BECOMING AWARE THE PATH TO ENLIGHTENMENT

I hope to create a place here to discuss various meditation techniques and other forms of awareness building techniques such as T’ai Chi and Yoga. Please realize that I will have to OK new posts before you see them and this might take a couple days. This is to prevent profanity or spam on the website. I hope to have several experts as editors who will be there to answer questions on practice techniques. I will be adding to the site as time permits.

Fong Ha is did a seminar in DesMoines Iowa November 13th and 14th 2010. Fong is always a pleasure to do a seminar with since he speaks fluent English and really works on the principles of Tai Chi and not just learning movements. Everyone also gets to feel the touch from Fong so they can experience the principles instead of just hearing about them.  Saturday Fong covered the principles of Tai Chi  and Sunday those of YiQuan. Below are some pictures from the seminar .

Meditation – make it a habit

October 21st, 2010

So how can you make meditation part of your life and get the get benefits of increased awareness, stress reduction and better health. One way is to make meditation a short part of your daily routine. If you look at the songs I have posted below … you can use  Song of the Mystics  and meditate for that short period of time every day. I suggest  doing this in the morning just after waking,  at lunch time before you eat,   in the evening before other exercise you may do or just before bed. Start the song and then sit in a chair not leaning on the backrest, just on your sitting bones is the best and feel your breath and body, relaxing every exhale into you body and breath. If you try and do this daily the benefits will be great and soon you will learn to relax and enjoy this time every day. Many will ague against the music since it may distract the mind but I have formulated this song so the beat is  repetitive and flowing and that will help the mind let go and not focus on changes in the music. Start today for a healthier life. I hope to have a CD out soon for meditations of different length Try my songs Seeking Vibrational Light-long version,  Chilling Lunar Vibrations,  and Awake Spirit Being  too.

Fong Ha’s Maui Tai Chi Retreat 2010

October 6th, 2010

Well studying with Fong Ha is something every Tai Chi student or master should do, but when you get the chance to do it on the Beach in Kihei Maui gotta jump on it now! Fong studied with the Yang family in his youth and has over 50 years of experience as well as knowledge in Yiquan which few westerners know about. I have had the pleasure of studying with Fong for 15 years and must say I learn a lot of new things every seminar. Fong focuses on peaking self awareness and not techniques, teaching students to feel the movements and their balance and not mechanically follow the form of their teacher. Many read the Tai Chi classics and what others say about them but when you feel the movements you understand the true nature of Tai Chi and experience personally the true meaning of these writings. Only when the awareness is at the right stage can one do certain principles used and to try and do these before the awareness and feeling is their they actually cause one to become better at using force instead of Chi in the movements. For more information see FONG”S WEBSITE. Here are some pictures for you so you can share the beauty of this great workshop!!

Fong Ha seminar

Fong demonstrates a roll back for 2 person exercises

This past weekend July 25 -26 Fong Ha gave a seminar in Shorewood IL. Although I have attended dozens of his seminars, I always learn something new and gain more awareness of myself and others. Since Fong works with each student, everyone gets a chance to feel his touch and energy for themselves. The Seminars always have an hour of meditation near the start and this helps to deepen everyones sensitivity. If you have never meditated in a larger group and especially with a master teacher you should try this. The energy from the teacher and group is Great and helps you to progress easier. I learned something new about how when doing standing meditation, the body will move from stillness to natural movement on it’s own. The secret to feeling this is being aware and observing it instead of letting your mind drift from observing your body and breath. I recommend studying with Fong Ha to anyone interested in gaining Awareness, Tai Chi skill, and Yiquan knowledge.

Meditation – observing vs. concentration and controlling

July 21st, 2009

Differing styles of meditation have similar goals but different techniques to real those goals. some techniques requires doing while others ask the person to simply observe themselves without controlling anything. An example of a active meditation would be to chant a mantra repeatedly either aloud or silently until the mind ‘lets go’ of the outside world and other thoughts. This intense concentration on the mantra blocks out all other thoughts and the repetition can even make it an unconscious act emptying the mind if done long enough.  In an observation method (also called listening) one would just observe the body and the breath but not control either intentionally. This does not mean not moving but allowing the body to move with its nature. Realize just by observing the body and breathe things will change due to the bodies increased awareness within the body’s natural balancing mechanisms. In Physics the term observer effect refers to changes that the act of observation will make on the phenomenon being observed. This is often the result of instruments that, by necessity, alter the state of what they measure in some manner. This effect also applies to all things and is part of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle states that certain pairs of physical properties, like position and momentum, cannot both be known with precision.  This applies to meditation in that while doing many movements and especially with speed, it becomes harder to observe with any real precision. It is very hard to not want to change things when observing them. During YiQuan standing practice, one may feel as though one side of the body is different than the other and then try and correct this. This changes the practice from observing to controlling. I suggest that by simply observing one will feel your nature and the body will slowly adjust to the proper alignments. This will increase your awareness of the true nature and slowly bring real results. Controlling before having increased awareness can bring unnatural results since maybe the hip you feel is tight is actually fine and the other hip is too loose. Therefore I would suggest that one start their meditation by simply observing and then slowly expand into movement with observation. WHAT DO YOU THINK??

Talk about your Journaling here

July 2nd, 2009

By keeping a journal you will be able to track patterns in your life. It is hard to remember events from a week ago let alone many months ago. Journaling is a practice that can be used for many things. Keeping a journal of your meditation practice can help you find the best time of day and place for you to meditate. Every person is unique and so is their practice, so journaling helps you to realize more about your habits, likes and dislikes. Journals have been used in Medicine to help find allergies from foods and other substances. In psychology they are used to track habitual patterns and triggers to attacks. Talk about you experiences with journaling here.
