How Bodywork Can Effect Awareness and Balance

Massage and many other forms of bodywork can effect our self awareness and balance. To change something effectively you must be aware of that thing. While you might make a change by random chance, becoming aware of yourself allows you to influence your body, mind and spirit with intention of positive change. Often when a body worker asks a client for information on previous injuries and tension the client will describe a few events. Often they may forget injuries which have had a great influence on their physical or emotional health. Working with clients, they say “Wow, I didn’t realize that area was so tight or sore” as certain areas are addressed. Then may also talk about a previous injury to that area they had forgotten. Sometimes and emotional experience may manifest when a part of the body is worked on. This emotional response may be a reaction to an emotional wound held in that part of the body. These hidden energy blockages can have detrimental effects on the client’s overall health. If energy flow in the body is blocked your body’s balance will also be effected. Hidden blockages will probably not be resolved unless they are brought back into the client’s awareness. Bodywork can be effective in bringing light on these problems and allowing the client’s mind to realize they still exist and need to be resolved. Meditation and awareness practices such as Yoga and T’ai Chi can also help to make one aware of these energy blocks. They can also help to allow energy to smoothly flow through these blockages after bodywork has found them. Energy orientated bodywork such as Zero Balancing, Cranial Sacral therapy and many others can effectively address the emotional and spiritual awareness of a client, as well as the physical being. They are effective at this since the trained practitioner will provide a grounded space for the client to work on these aspects of their being. This grounded space allows the client’s inner self to have a safe, secure environment to process these sensitive life aspects. Setting a frame for the session can be effective in dealing with these more energetic aspects. A frame is working on a certain aspect of your physical, emotional or spiritual self. such Examples could be “ I want to release some of my dislike of my co-workers” or “I want to continue to move positively in my career” or “ I want to feel relaxed when I drive my car”. Just stating these goals helps to activate them, but when added to the energy flow of a bodywork session, they can help release mental or emotional blocks that have held the client from reaching these goals. Bodywork can be a great help to those who seek greater awareness in their lives. If you already have an awareness oriented practice such as meditation, Yoga, or the internal martial arts, adding bodywork can be of great help in reaching your goals. Bodywork can bring light to many aspects of the self you are unaware of or have hidden from yourself.
